Automated Meter Reading (AMR) – smart meter technology – can accomplish this, but not all AMR is fully automated or smart. RealSens™, a proprietary technology developed by Reonet, is both.
RealSens™ is more properly described as an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) system because not only can it remotely receive data from utility meters, it can also transmit instructions to meters. It is a fully automated, wireless data collection and communications network that can connect to an existing metering system, improving utility processes at low cost and with minimum human interference.

RealSens™ technology is based on an ultra low-power, fully two-way, fixed radio frequency (RF) mesh network that operates in the worldwide license-free ISM (industrial, scientific & medical) bandwidths (868 MHz). The RealSens™ radio transceiver devices are powered by long-life (>10 years) batteries, thereby ensuring complete independence from external power supply and communication systems.
The entire system is configured, synchronised, commissioned and operated from a remote computer web interface. RealSens™ can therefore deliver almost real-time information at the push of a button, anywhere in the world.
